Hey Vancouver! Swap your spooky costumes for flowers and sugar skulls. The Pawn Shop YVR is bringing back our biggest annual celebration: Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos).
Even better, this year marks our 10-YEAR Anniversary! For a full decade, you have made us your go-to spot for incredible tacos, legendary tequila, and unforgettable times right here on Granville Street. Furthermore, we truly want to thank every single one of you. You made The Pawn Shop what it is today. Therefore, we couldn’t have done it without our amazing community. Consequently, we are thrilled for the many great years to come!
You definitely won’t want to miss our milestone celebration on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026. Specifically, we are opening for regular daily service at 12:00 PM with an all-day happy hour. Afterwards, we celebrate proper from 5:00 PM to close featuring special drink specials, live DJs, and the best tequila on Granville Street!
The Meaning Behind the Celebration: What is Day of the Dead?
Before the music starts, it is important to know what we are celebrating. Día de Muertos is not Halloween. Instead, it is a beautiful, joyful Mexican holiday dedicated to remembering and honouring friends and family members who have passed away.
Rather than mourning, the holiday is a celebration of the lives they led. It is filled with colour, food, music, and light. Moreover, it is a traditional event centred on the belief that the spirits of the dead return home to their families for one special night.
The holiday’s most iconic symbols include:
Calaveras (Sugar Skulls): Decorative skulls that are playful, colourful, and represent the deceased.
Marigolds: Bright orange flowers (cempasúchil) whose strong scent is believed to guide the spirits home.
Ofrendas (Altars): Home altars with the deceased’s favourite foods, drinks, and photos.

On Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026, join us as we transform the space into an epic anniversary bash. Ultimately, we want to celebrate a decade of good times.
We open as usual at 12:00 PM for daily service. Then, the real celebration kicks off from 5:00 PM to close! Get ready for high-energy live DJs spinning all night long.
