Hey Vancouver! Get ready to swap your spooky costumes for flowers and sugar skulls because The Pawn Shop YVR is bringing back our biggest, most vibrant annual celebration: Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos).

You won’t want to miss our Day of the Dead at The Pawn Shop YVR fiesta. We’re throwing an all-day, three-level party from 4pm-1am on Sunday, November 2nd, filled with live music, incredible food, and, of course, the best tacos and tequila on Granville Street. This year, we’re making it bigger and better than ever, with an exclusive family event earlier in the day!

The Meaning Behind the Celebration: What is Day of the Dead?

Before the music starts, it’s important to know what we are celebrating. Día de Muertos is not Halloween; it’s a beautiful, joyful Mexican holiday dedicated to remembering and honouring friends and family members who have passed away.

Instead of mourning, the holiday is a celebration of the lives they led, filled with colour, food, music, and light. It’s a beautiful tradition centred on the belief that the spirits of the dead return home to their families for one special night.

Iconic Symbols of the Day of the Dead

The holiday’s most iconic symbols include:

  • Calaveras (Sugar Skulls): Decorative skulls that are playful, colourful, and represent the deceased.
  • Marigolds: Bright orange flowers (cempasúchil) whose strong scent is believed to guide the spirits home.
  • Ofrendas (Altars): Home altars with the deceased’s favourite foods, drinks, and photos.

Three Floors of Fiesta: The Adult Day of the Dead at The Pawn Shop YVR Celebration

That’s right, we’re taking over the entire building! On Sunday, November 2nd, Pawn Shop YVR’s main room, Hideaway, and Loft will all be transformed into an unforgettable, three-level celebration.

Get ready for non-stop action, from late afternoon until last call.
